First Day of School in Camden

Posted on Tuesday September 16, 2014

Our Camden Campus was filled with joyful noise yesterday as the Residential Program students arrived, full of excitement and ready to spend the academic year living together in our cozy farmhouse on Washington Street.  We started they day at noon with a family potluck and unpacking, then a welcoming circle.  Students had school tours and they walked down to High Mountain Hall to see where their graduation ceremony will be held in the spring-keeping their eyes on the prize!

camden wayfinders day one!

At six they ate dinner together around the dining table (spaghetti and meatballs and salad plus our homemade bread and pickles-and a vegetarian option of course!). And by 7:00 they were all gathered in the living room, Papi on guitar; Rose on violin; Noah on improvised drums; Rakeem on piano; everyone together on vocals. You’d never know that this group had just met only hours earlier.

They’ll go through the next year together, full of adventures and learning and challenges and fun.  But for this week, they’ll be settling into their routine, beginning classes in Reading, Creative Arts, Career Explorations, American Sign Language, Media Arts, Theater, Green Initiative and Documentary Film. They’ll eat dinner together, go out for ice cream, hike the Breakwater, get ready for their trip to Mount Dessert Island.  They’ll work on their chores, hold mock interviews, find job placements. So much is ahead. But for today, eight new students have come together to set out on this new adventure together, and we’re so happy they’re here.

Welcome Erika, Myranda, Emily, Jacob, Papi, Rose, Noah and Rakeem-our Camden Residential Program Class of 2015!
