A Letter from Martha Kempe, Wayfinder Head of Schools

Dear friends,

As we wrap up another wonderful graduation season, I am writing to let you know about my plans for the upcoming school year. As my twentieth year with The Community School/Wayfinder Schools approaches, I have decided to move toward retirement. I will remain in my full-time position as Head of Schools through August, and then transition into an advisory role for the remainder of the year.

I am so immensely proud of the work of this organization, and of all those who have helped us grow and thrive over these many years. Just in this past year we have begun the process of growing into Hancock County, we have increased our outreach to court involved youth, and we have expanded our focus on arts education, outdoor education, and career exploration opportunities.

I am so fortunate that I had the opportunity to spend such a large part of my career working with Maine youth, and I thank you for all you have done to support our students and our school.

I am thrilled that the board of directors has voted to promote current Passages Program Director Erica Gates to the role of Head of Schools. Erica has been with Wayfinder since 2011 and has served as Passages Program Director since 2018. She brings a wealth of experience to this position, and she is deeply committed to this work.

I know the school will be in good hands with Erica at the helm and I am so thankful for all your generous support over the years.

If you have any questions, please be sure to reach out to me at marthak@wayfinderschools.org.

Happy summer from all of us at Wayfinder Schools!

-Martha
